A few years ago, I was your typical office-worker: stressed out, uneven energy, overweight, and inconsistent complexion. Now I'm just your typical 28-year old urban hunter-gatherer on a quest to be healthy, and having a few adventures along the way. See my full bio.
The Red Desert
Looks a little bit like a savannah, right? I just snapped the photo with my phone.
We are in the Red Dessert in southwestern Wyoming. About 50,000 antelope roam the area, the largest herd of antelope in the lower 48 states. There are also huge herds of mule deer and wild horses. Even a rare type of desert elk. We've already seen lots of antelope and mule deer close up -- even a few horses at a distance.
The Wyoming fish and game officials got a good laugh out of us city-slickers trying to run down an antelope. "I'd pay to watch you try that." It might not work, but we're going to have a blast. The team is made up of a host of ultra runners. We're keeping an eye out for rattlesnakes.
First run later today.
