I shot Bambi

Look at the 12-point rack on this bad boy.

It's a shame I didn't shoot that one.

I shot Bambi!

Don't worry, Bambi didn't suffer.  I got him from maybe 30 yards, open sights, spine/lungs, dropped right where he stood.  More to come.

Great job.  I've spent many

Great job.  I've spent many an enjoyable hour in a deer stand and seen many whitetail but have never taken a shot.  I'll see if I can remedy this when I visit the folk's property over the Thanksgiving weekend.

Nice, you should, good luck!

Bambis are much more tender

Bambis are much more tender and delicious than the big-ass impressive ones!

that's exactly right...ate

that's exactly right...ate the tenderloins last night...amazingly tender...hardly cooked it

Nice job, John!I wasn't able

Nice job, John!I wasn't able to go deer hunting this year, but did have a good time pheasant and duck hunting in North Dakota. Enjoy the venison! :-)

Thanks, Darrin, will do!

good for you.  are you able

good for you.  are you able to take more for more meat?  did you process it yourself?

all the vitals were intact

all the vitals were intact (liver, heart, kidneys), so that added to the take. I skinned it (with some help), and cut out the tenderloins (with some help), but the rest was done by a family friend who has a processing operation right near where we hunted...took it there that night and got it in a freezer.

way to go!

way to go!

 That's a clean shot, good

That's a clean shot, good job! Man, bet he's gonna be tasty!

 Solid work John. Good to

Solid work John. Good to drop them right away before the adrenalin gets pumping and destroys the taste of the meat. Also, it's no fun to track them for miles and not fair to the deer to suffer like that as well. I've got a buddy who only aims for the head for this exact purpose. Doesn't work for mounting trophies, but he's out for the meat just like you. Planning on going hunting for the 1st time in years this Xmas in Tennessee. Should be fun.

Thanks Trey, Ian, and

Thanks Trey, Ian, and Staffaction. There's a good pro/con on head shots in Jackson Landers book, Hunting Deer for Food. Head shots are a smaller kill zone than the vitals of lungs/heart/spine. The head also moves the most of any part of the body, so easy to miss entirely or hit a part you didn't intend. I'd say if you're an expert, head shots can be the most humane way to go...but if you're not an expert, the bigger area of vitals may actually be more humane, all things considered. Intersting though.

i wonder if your buddy hunts

i wonder if your buddy hunts with a rifle.  head shots are risky otherwise.
