How were the sardines?
So who tried sardines or another cold water fish for the first time? Put your experiences in the comments.
I had some mackerel straight out of the can. Here's a tasty-looking recipe in a comment by Mason Kidd:
- Take a can of Brisling sardines packed in olive oil, drain the oil into a bowl.
- Add sherry vinegar, lemon zest, pepper, and parsley. Whisk til combined.
- Add the sardines back into the marinade, let sit for 10 minutes or so.
- Make a big ass salad with your favorite veggies. I always include avocado cuz it goes really well with the sardines.
- Top the salad with the sardine mixture. Enjoy!
I adapted this from an Alton Brown recipe for sardines on toast.
Sardines and cold water fish are just one of those things that you just gotta eat to love. Once you eat enough of them, you'll come to love 'em.

I tried some King Oscar
I tried some King Oscar sardines and with enough tabasco and dijon it was pretty good. I wanted to try mackeral but I couldn't find it at the stores I shop at.
From what I can tell BPA
From what I can tell BPA leeching into foods is only an issue in high temps or when the contents are acidic (as is the case with canned tomatoes).

Watch out for all the estrogen mimicking endocrine system disrupting BPA in those cans! Stick to companies like Vital Choice and Oregons choice Wild Planet Ecofish. Kings oscars and bumblebee use Bisphenol-A in a lot of their products.
I also had some King Oscar
I also had some King Oscar sardines straight from the can. The taste was much better than I anticipated, although my wife thought otherwise. Sardine Sunday is an excellent idea! These little fish pack a lot of nutrition in a small container. I ended up buy extra cans to have throughout the week. Thanks for the encouragement to try something new.
Being swedish, paleo
Being swedish, paleo breakfast is always 2 hardboiled eggs, half a jar of pickled herring and a spoonful of sourcream. Mackerel is at ist best in tomato sauce, straight from the can, like the norwegians make it.

Yup, I'm Norwegian, and the mackerell in tomato is awesome. Although mackerell is at it's best when you've fished it yourself. Good food indeed and a nice fight on the fishing rod!

I've had a can of sardines
I've had a can of sardines sitting on the kitchen counter since your first mention of the idea of actually eating them. Can't quite bring myself to opening it.I am a 73 y/o raised in the mid-west on meat and potatoes, also a former Catholic, which in those days, required you to eat fish on Fridays. My mother was a lousey cook and all that smelly fish came with all of its bones. For all practical purposes, I haven't eaten fish since I went away and joined the Army. The only fish I have eaten with any regularity (twice a year maybe) has been a McDonald's fish sandwich, and then only with extra tartar sauce to drown out the last remnants of fishy taste. However, I haven't had one since I went Paleo and gave up wheat.I'm still trying to figure out the best approach to dealing with sardines because I'm interested in the omega-3 factor.
Try your can on top a mound
Try your can on top a mound of smashed avocado. That's how I learned to love them.
I can top that: I've had a
I can top that: I've had a can of sardines sitting on top of the fridge since going paleo: October 2010! I laughed when you wrote: "Can't bring myself to open it." :-D
King Oscar Sardines... yum!I
